Warda Blacktop Road Bridge Work Complete

Fayette County Commissioner, Jason McBroom would like everyone to know that the new bridge on Warda Blacktop Road is now complete and open.

South Lee Co. VFD BBQ

The South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department Annual Barbecue will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, on the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Beef and pork barbecue to-go will be available at the pits starting at 4:30 p.m. Beef and pork barbecue plates, served with all the trimmings, will be served from 5-7:30 p.m. This will be a free-will donation for meal and beer. There will be a silent auction beginning at 3 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. Music throughout the afternoon will be performed by “The Blue Sunsets.” All proceeds go towards updating fire equipment.

Community League Baseball

The Serbin Jackrabbits Community League Baseball will play Weimar on Sunday, July 30. The game will be played in La Grange at 6 p.m. and broadcast over KVLGKBUK.

Opening Service for FLHS

Opening Service for Faith Lutheran High School will be held on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 3 p.m. This will officially open their seventh academic school year. “Better Together” base on Romans 15: 5-6 is the theme for 2023-2024. A worship service will be held at Holy Cross Church, led by the association Pastors. An offering will be collected to support FLHS Scholarship fund. A potluck dessert and punch reception will follow. The community is invited to attend.

Camp Lone Star Picnic

Camp Lone Star will have their annual picnic on Sunday, July 30. The day will include the new dining hall dedication at 9:45 a.m., music starting at 10:30 a.m., an outdoor worship service at 11 a.m. led by Rev. John Karlee (Lead Missionary and Campus Pastor at University Lutheran Chapel in College Station). A barbecue meal will be held at noon, and the benefit auction will be from 1-3 p.m. The swimming pool will also be open from 1-2:30 p.m. for those wanting to enjoy the cool water. Each year Camp Lone Star serves over 11,000 individuals through their retreats, outdoor education, and of course their summer camp ministry. This annual event is a great opportunity to show support for Camp Lone Star and help it to continue the ministry into the future.

Wednesday Night Bible Study

The Wednesday Night Bible Study Group will begin a new study on the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel on Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. This 11week study will cover the calling of the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David. Holy Cross Stamp Program

The Ladies Stamp Program at Holy Cross in Warda is coming to an end and they ask that anyone having stamps to turn in would do so by Sept. 1 so they can get them sent in to the Texas District Stamp Program. They can be brought to the church office, dropped off in the designated box in the hallway, or mail to Lisa Gay, P.O. Box 14, Warda, TX. 78960.

Holy Cross Annual Picnic The Holy Cross Annual Church Picnic will be held on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the church picnic grounds. More information will be coming soon.

FLHS Oktoberfest

Faith Lutheran High School’s Annual Oktoberfest Saturday October 28, New this year will be the Battle of the Vines, in addition to the Battle of the Brew-both are home brew competitions, so start planning your brews now. Returning will be the traditional German meal, domino tournament, cornhole tournament, music, kids games and lots of fun.

Baptism

Evelynn Jean Perry was baptized on Sunday July 23 at Holy Cross in Warda. Evelynn is the daughter of Madalyn Hopson and Kalvin Perry.

Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

The “Blessing of the Backpacks” will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13 at the regular service.

Sunday School Promotion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27.

Faith Lutheran High School Registration for the 20232024 school year for Faith Lutheran High School is underway. There are currently 20 students enrolled.
