Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of November.

Sgt. Ron Naumann investigated a theft in which items were taken from a barn that was leased to a third party. The suspect then listed the items on Facebook Marketplace and sold the items. The suspect was identified as the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher stopped a vehicle in the Engle area. The driver was found to be in possession of cocaine and a loaded handgun. The driver was arrested without incident.

Deputy Terry Guentert took a report of fraud in which the victim who is disabled, went to use her debit card and discovered there was no money in the account. The victim advised there were several charges on her account that were not made by her. The case remains under investigation. Guentert also responded to call involving child custody. Upon law enforcement’s arrival, the mother was able to retrieve her daughter. This case will be presented to the County Attorney’s Office to pursue chargers on the other party involved for Interfering with Child Custody.

Deputy A.J Gonzales responded to SH-71 near Lady Bird Loop in reference to a possible stolen vehicle. Gonzales arrived and located a male sitting in the driver seat. The male was a missing subject from Bee Cave and suffered from dementia. The stolen vehicle was recovered and the male was released to EMS to be evaluated and was later reunited with his family. Gonzales also took a report involving damage to property which occurred at a gas station in the Carmine area. After reviewing video footage, it was determined that an 18-wheeler backed into a gas pump during the night. Gonzales was able to locate the driver of the 18-wheeler and the damages will be taken care of civilly.

Deputy Herman Olvera took a report of a stolen motorcycle which was taken in the Cistern area. The vehicle was entered into the database as stolen. The vehicle was found abandoned in the Flatonia area a few days later.

Deputy James Ulbig took a report for a lost gun. The weapon’s serial number was entered into the national database as lost. Ulbig also took a report of a stolen trailer that was taken from the Round Top area. A report was completed and the trailer was entered into the database as stolen.

Deputy Duane Meagher attempted to stop a Chevy pickup with stolen license plates in the Flatonia area. The vehicle fled from Meagher. The vehicle crashed through a fence and Meagher lost sight of the vehicle deep in the property. The vehicle was located abandoned. The vehicle was reported stolen and was recovered. Meagher also responded to a death inquest which occurred in the Muldoon area. The death appeared to be natural and no signs of foul play were observed. A local funeral home was contacted per the family.

Detective Kenn Kretz responded to a burglary which occurred at the Fayette County Courthouse. Evidence was collected and the investigation is on-going with the Texas Rangers.

Deputy Joe Gonzales took a report of a theft which occurred at a business near La Grange. It was discovered that five lawn mowers were stolen. Gonzales entered three of the five lawn mowers into the database as stolen. The case remains under investigation. Gonzales also took a report of estray cattle involving two cows. A report was completed along with all required estray paperwork.

Deputy Holly Smith took a call of an animal complaint. The incident occurred in the 6000 block of Old Smithville Road. After further investigation, Smith determined a report would be accomplished and will remain open pending further investigation. Smith also stopped a vehicle near West Point for a traffic violation. The driver was found to be in possession of cocaine. The driver was arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center without incident.

Deputy Jared Michalec assisted DPS with a vehicle crash that occurred in the Ellinger area. The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries that occurred during that crash. Michalec was dispatched to the Warda area in reference to a disturbance. The incident was deemed to be verbal only and both parties were separated by Michalec.

Deputy Seth Nagel stopped a vehicle near La Grange for a traffic infraction. The driver was found to be in possession of THC and a loaded handgun. The driver was arrested. Nagel received a call for a suspicious person walking near Ellinger. Nagel located the male who was found to have an active warrant out of Austin, for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The subject ran from Nagel and a foot pursuit ensued. Nagel was able to apprehend the subject and place him into custody.

Deputy Dustin Kieschnick responded to an address near Winchester, in reference to a suicidal subject. The subject was detained and transported for medical treatment. Kieshnick also stopped a vehicle in the La Grange area. The driver was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by Felon and Driving While License Invalid. Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 38 individuals for the month of November. Sawyer reports that the Jail Staff transported 3 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
