Students Perform ‘Visions of Sugarplums’

The St. Rose of Lima Catholic School 7th & 8th grade Drama Club presented “Visions of Sugarplums” by Anne Coulter Martens for their Christmas performance on Wednesday, December 16. The play tells the tale of the Benson family, who in the whirlwind of holiday preparations almost forgets what Christmas is all about. Thanks to a visit from their Aunt Vinnie and a children’s Christmas pageant they are reminded of the reason for the season. The students rehearsed after school twice a week to bring the characters and storyline to life. The group is looking forward to planning their spring performance.
Schulenburg Legend Dies From COVID Complications

David Husmann, who coached Schulenburg to back-to-back state titles in 1991 and 1992 died Friday at South Austin Medical Center from complications of COVID-19 his family has confirmed. Husmann was 67.
Jefferson Place Residents Get Christmas Stockings

Friday morning Father Brian Phillips went to help “Cindy Snowflake” drop of the stockings to the residents of Jefferson Place. Sacred Heart School students stuffed the stockings with the items sent by their families to share holiday cheer.
Judge to Appoint Brossmann

Fayette County Judge Joe Weber announced Tuesday, Dec. 16, that he will appoint Drew Brossmann to serve the unexpired term of Pct. 4 Commissioner Tom Muras, who retires at the end of this month. Muras’ term ends in 2022.
The True Meaning of Christmas

The sixth grade students at Sacred Heart Catholic School continued the annual tradition of performing a live nativity scene for the school’s Christmas program. But because of pandemic precautions, this year’s program was not done in front an audience, but instead recorded so people could watch on the school’s facebook and Youtube pages. All the students who participated in the program are shown on Page B4 today.
TXDOT Plans to Expand La Grange’s Busiest Intersection

Judge Authorized to Try to Purchase Bank Building

Fayette County Commissioners authorized County Judge Joe Weber to negotiate for the purchase of the old Pioneer Bank building in La Grange. The building is located at 143 North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.
Holidays On Parade

Communities in Fayette County have been able to use the natural social distancing inherent with a parade to keep some of their holiday traditions alive amidst the pandemic. Last Saturday Round Top held its annual lighted Christmas parade.

Local Pastors Join Together for the Community Thanksgiving Service

The La Grange Area Ministerial Alliance held its annual community Thanksgiving service on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 6 pm. The Remnant Church hosted the event this year. Dennis Hill welcomed everyone present and online, and opened the service in prayer. The Remnant Church praise team provided the music for the service. Candy O’Meara led the Thanksgiving litany of Psalm 65. Marcia Kifer and Jan Hill led the prayers during the service. Cole McGlynn and Scott Elliott shared the scriptures, Psalm 138:1-5 and Ephesians 4:1-6. Martha Langford led the offering time, explaining that the food would be taken to the Amen Food Pantry in La Grange. She also explained that the monetary offering taken would be deposited in the Good Shepherd Fund, which the Ministrial Alliance oversees. This fund is to help transients passing through our community. For those not in attendance at the service, the address for donating to the fund is: Good Shepherd Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 368, La Grange, TX 78945. Chris Little delivered the Thanksgiving message based on I Thessalonians 5:16-18. The service concluded with a prayer by Kolbe Hill. Amidst Bridge Construction, Pieces of Nature Are Saved

The City of La Grange hopes to save five of the crepe myrtles that used to line the road to the boat ramp. City crews dug up the trees and transplanted them in the New La Grange Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 20.

County Officials Report on 2023 Activities

Fayette County assigned 355 new 9-1-1 addresses during 2023. Seven named subdivision roads were also recognized as private roads for mapping purposes and added to the Fayette 9-1-1 addressing system.

Fayette County Recylcled 1.2 Million Pounds Last Year
