Mullins Prairie Store Closing, But Set To Reopen Under New Management

The managing partners of Mullins Prairie Store on FM 155 between La Grange and Weimar announced they will cease operations after this weekend. “This economy has not been kind to anyone, but the consequences of closing down outweigh the opportunities to stay open,” the business said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, March 19.

Law enforcement and emergency management personnel met March 11 in La Grange to discuss the annual MS 150 ride that traverses across several area counties. The 40th annual MS 150 will have starts in Houston and Austin with all riders ending up in La Grange at the Fayette County Fairgrounds for the first night. The ride is scheduled for April 27-28, 2024.

Local Royalty Rides in Houston Parade

Fayette County Fair Royalty took on Rodeo Houston partnering with Fayette Co Go Texan and were riders in the Grand Entry Rodeo Parade for Fayette County day at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Participating in the Houston event included (L to R): Queen 2nd Runner Up Andrea Ortiz, Jr Miss Annabella DelaRosa, Little Miss Reagan Arlund, Queen 1st Runner Up Camryn Alvarado, Little Mister Branson Moerbe and Queen Harper Henneke. Pageant Chairman Shannon Hemmitt, Pageant Committee Member Brenna Davis and families of the court were also in attendance for the day in the Bajou City. Members of the court considered the event a once in a lifetime opportunity. They spent the day on the grounds with their sashes and crowns on and meeting rodeo goers from across the state. Traffic Stop Leads to Money Laundering and Felony Possession of Controlled Substance

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday morning around 11 a.m. Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a 2019 Buick Encore passenger car on I-10 westbound near the Fayette/ Gonzales County line for a traffic violation.

Burglars Hit Country Store at O’Quinn

The O’Quinn Store on FM 609 was hit by burglars sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Sheriff’s officers said $20 in quarters, $3 in nickels, and three cartons of cigarettes were missing. Entry was gained by smashing a window at the rear of the store owned by Paul (Jack) Korenek.

LGISD Hits Maximum Incoming Transfers

Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the current enrollment sits at 1,922 which is 21 above the same time last year. Three Arrested for Ledbetter Murder

Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger reports that three suspects have been arrested for the March 5 murder of Carlos Ramone Green near Ledbetter. Green, 36 of College Station, was found dead from gunshot wounds at property on Lee County Road 123 between Ledbetter and Dime Box.
