We mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Berry Lou Stech of Weimar, who passed away on April 8, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on Feb. 9, 1930, in Holman, Berry Lou was the daughter of Gertrude (Trefny) Brandt and George Brandt, Jr.

Berry Lou held many talents and passions.

From her days as a volleyball player and spirited twirler in her high school band to her dedicated service as the secretary at Herder Lumber Yard, and the cattle and dairy business she ran with her late husband, she approached every endeavor with grace and determination.

Throughout her life, she was an active member in multiple organizations, including the Weimar Garden Club, Pink Ladies, Literary Guild and Weimar ISD’s PTA. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and served in various positions in the church organizations. She found joy in nurturing others, whether it was cooking, baking, making homemade ice cream or simply being a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend.

Her hands were never idle. Berry Lou found joy in cooking, dancing, gardening, and needlepoint. Her kitchen was a hub of creativity and warmth, where she meticulously kept recipe books adorned with thank you notes, and where she crafted memorable dinner parties and meals for family and friends. She was also a master of re-purposing and saving all things, a natural fashionista and a skilled seamstress. She found beauty and purpose in every aspect of life.

Berry Lou is survived by her daughters, Joan Eckles and her husband, Ralph of Hilton Head, S.C./Weimar, and Terri Kubinski and husband, Mike of Weimar; five grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; her sister Virginia Ulrich and her brother George (Vera) Brandt III, her sister-in-law Lornette Schoeneberg and brother-in-law Curby (Melva) Stech.

She is also remembered by her honorary sons, Carl and Chad Kloesel, who supported her late husband on the Stech Family farm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard Stech, whom she married in 1950 at the age of 20, and one sister, Ore Nell Frerichs.

Berry Lou Stech leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and unwavering dedication to her community. Her generous heart and infectious smile touched all who knew her.
