To the editor: With regards to the factstarved diatribe by Sandy Hooper on the opinion page of today’s Fayette County Record: What on earth has happened to this person that caused them to demonize me? I’m a Democrat – my family have been Democrat since the ‘30s, and although some of us are to the left or to the right of the standard party line, we are still citizens of this nation, just like you are, Hooper. What right do you have to unilaterally condemn all Democrats as people who hate this nation? Does that include my husband, who served in Vietnam? Does that include my brother, who served at the end of the cold war? Does that include my Uncle Jack, who served in Korea? All Democrats.

To the editor: I have been reading many articles in the Fayette County Record on the issue of flooding in La Grange. Is there an easy answer to this problem, the answer is no.

To the Editor: As your community activist, I am reporting to you that I have met with our new city manager “JT,” and I am very hopeful that he can actually get something done about our horrible drainage problem. However, I would recommend him doing things differently.

To the editor: In a debate leading up to the 1980 presidential election, President Jimmy Carter made a statement that somewhat exaggerated then-candidate Ronald Reagan’s opposition to Medicare legislation being considered at the time. Reagan responded to Carter with a withering, “There you go again…” This morning, I read the Letters section of the May 10 Fayette County Record and I found myself quoting, of all people, Ronald Reagan.

Well, the results are in for my article of May 3 on Poor Fences. For those who missed it, I asked whether I should call the sheriff’s office on my neighbor when his cows get out. T EXAS History On May 15, 1970 Misty Fincher finally got her first good night’s sleep since a tornado tore through Lubbock four days earlier Moda Fincher, the little girl who grew up to be the first female radio announcer in the Lone Star State and, some say, the whole country, spent her early years in a tiny settlement called Bronte. The original inhabitants wanted to call their new home in the wide-open spaces of West Texas “Bronco,” but the postal authorities said that name was taken.

The springtime garden at our place in Cozy Corner blossomed in the past few weeks. The tomato vines are loaded with fruit, and a few just started ripening.
